SEN Officer

If your child heads to a mainstream school, the SEN Officer is the name to know: the school-based professional who supports students with mild special educational needs — dyslexia, ADHD and mild autism spectrum disorder.

The title changed. MOE previously called this role Allied Educator (Learning & Behavioural Support), or AED(LBS); older articles and forum threads still use it. Same role — “SEN Officer” is the current name, within MOE’s Allied Educators family.

When you speak to a prospective school, ask directly how SEN Officer support would work for your child — MOE’s framing for mainstream suitability is whether your child can access the national curriculum with that support in place.
