CareShield Life

CareShield Life

CareShield Life is Singapore’s national long-term care insurance. CPF Board states that cover is automatic from 1 October 2020 or when a person turns 30 — even with pre-existing conditions, which is why it matters to autism families: your child is covered from 30 without underwriting.

The practical layer

  • Payout: S$689 a month in 2026, payable for life while the disability lasts.
  • The claims bar is severe disability: being unable to carry out 3 of the 6 activities of daily living — a higher bar than most autism-related support needs.
  • The age gate is the planning fact: CareShield Life, ElderFund and MediSave Care all begin at 30 under their own published rules. Between 21 and 30, the family’s own arrangements carry the load — which is what the trust and SNSS are for.

Where this fits in the whole sequence — deputyship, trust, savings scheme, safety nets — is mapped in what changes legally at 21.
